Best free 3d modeling software for a mac?

by 3D G33K

what is the best free 3d modeling software for a mac? I’m an architecture student and my budget is really low so i would prefer to get a free version of any 3d software. I heard maya use to give out free student versions but they dont anymore. Does anyone know some other good ones and where i can find them?

Blender is your best option if you want free.

The new version 2.49 is just out with some great new features, so the site may be slow/unreachable at the moment.

Other than that, for architecture Google SketchUp might be an option:

The free edition works quite well. You could even combine this with Blender, if you like, and render the results in Blender.

Use LuxRender for awesome architectural render results:

Lux is excellent for architectural visualization. Some examples of renders of interior scenes made with Blender and Lux: http://www.luxrender.net/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=208

On the other hand, if you are a student, you could get inexpensive versions of Cinema4d or Maya for the mac. But you can’t go wrong by first trying Blender – completely free.
