Is My Panasonic TV 3D ready?
by 3D G33K
Hello, we bought a 58 inch Panasonic Viera TH-58PZ800U Television about 6-8 months ago. . . this was because we bought our old TV right before HD began and we wanted some HD goodness. Now I am informed, of course, that after I purchased my new television that there are going to be 3D movies and channels at home!!! This sounded great until I heard your TV must be 3D ready. . . . wtf? Is my TV 3D ready? Again its a Panasonic Viera TH-58PZ800U, and if it is NOT 3D ready, is there a way to make 3D work anyway? thanks. Also I wont give best answer unless both quesitons are answered. 1) Is it 3D ready?2) (If not) Is there a way to make 3D work anyway?

No, it is not 3D ready.
No, there is no way to make it work.
3D televisions are just now being introduced at the CES.

1. I dont think it is but to be sure if it’s 3d ready or not check if there is one or there are two sockets for video cables as there are two for sound (right & left).
2. If not, there are things called “external 3d comb.” that can work with any tv. But you’ll have to weare collored glasses not pollarized then.

There is a slight possibility that you can use it for 3d. For field sequential 3d you have to have a high enough refresh rate for it to look good, under 100 hz there is a flickering effect. This tv has one of 480 which is more than high enough. It is possible that a converter box will be made that you can hook up to a tv and adjust the refresh rate to match your televisions. This is what they did with the old crt tube televisions. Those refreshed at 100 times per second (100 hz) and the old field sequential systems used that 100 refresh rate. You didn’t adjust the 3d system but all crt’s refreshed the same rate. I’m just saying they could come out with a box to do it. With home 3d just coming out later this year it is hard to say what they will offer.

I have the Japanese model of your tv and I believe panasonic is making a dvd player that will use the active shutter glasses and will work with all of 2009 plasma tvs. The only catch is that more than likely only blue ray will be 3d. However I am sure that someone can make a plugin adaptor that can project the shutter sync signal. PANASONIC HAS KNOWN THIS IS COMING FOR SOME TIME, (THEY ALREADY HAVE A 3D VIDEO CAM) I am sure they will provide you with a solution.
Check the links below its aparent that Panasonic has been thinking about this for a while.
