what 3d software tool should i use to create the insides of a castle(stairways, corridors, towers etc)?

i have never used a 3d software tool before but i really want to have my take on Hogwarts because EA’s take is so bloody disappointing. I know that these tools are VERY hard to operate but i am willing to give it a shot.

I say Blender since its the first thing that comes to mind and plus I have used to before. Its obviously going to take time to learn it, as you already know I see, no matter what software you use, but blender is updated often and there are a lot of tutorials around the web for Blender. Plus its 100% free.

Here is a page with downloads for v2.49b: http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/
This version is the last “stable” version. They have released 2.5 version it is very different compared to the older versions. You’ll find more tutorials compatible with the old version than you will with the new 2.5 versions.

However there are tutorials and such out there for 2.5 versions so if you want to give it a shot: http://www.blender.org/download/get-25-alpha/
The user interface for 2.5 is easier to navigate but the guts of the programs are still just as complicated. Renders are faster “supposedly” and particles are much more advanced and nice looking in the 2.5 version.
