What is the best 3D animation software?

by 3D G33K

I am trying out (for myself) animation and would like to know if there are any professional grade animation software or free downloads I could use. I’m looking for free downloads mostly, but if you can show me a great animation program, I’ll be happy. Best reference gets 10points. Thanks!

The big players in 3D animation are Autodesk Maya, Softimage XSI (which might now by Autodesk XSI, as I think they bought it), and 3DS Max (formerly 3D Studio Max). Those are all pay applications (and not cheap). I know Maya has a free trial download though, so that would be a good start. Its an extremely robust application.

But, there is 1 freeware alternative that’s work looking into as well. That would be Blender. Its an open source 3D animation tool. Its 100% free. It has a decent following now (so online support). And it is even being used by some professional facilities here and there. So definitely something worth your time to investigate.

depend really of what your are looking for..if you want some great animation programs(like the movies shrek and that stuff) you should go with 3d MAX(easy to use and thousands of tutorials across the internet for everything you want,modeling-animation) but its a giant programs that need months, hours and pation to be good.MAYA to..For smaller things try the link below..(also is the 3d max but there is a newer version)
