Thunderbirds – Invaders from Skaro (Maya Animation)

by 3D G33K

3D Modelling and Animation Project based on Thunderbirds spaceship with Dalek at the end. This is my first ever 3D modelling and animation experience. Using Maya 8.5 with MentalRay and Raytracing. Took over 20hours of rendering time to complete all together despite using Vista x64, Intel Quad 1.83Ghz, 4Gb RAM computers and up to 4 machines at some point. Music: Requiem for a Dream, I think it’s called that. First heard it from the Sunshine Movie trailer and just loved it and found good use for my animation. Hope you liked it.

Nice job, the video really doesn’t make since, but still ok. Just wanted to know, how long did it take you to make that space ship, when I’m using Maya it only takes me 30 minutes to do a very deive space craft, please do tell.

Thank you very much. I learnt by going through some of the tutorials that came with the software and just experimented around. This was my first project and getting to learn Maya. Was very difficult to learn but I’m glad it turned out alright.

Thanks for the reply. Your animation turned out really nice too. How did you learn to use maya?

I already did wanted to render directly to .avi to save time. However I ended up saving them as .tiff or some high quality images and compiled them together in Adobe Encore, then finally edited using Windows Movie Maker. But I’m glad I rendered them individually because the system crashed a few times, therefore I can specifically select the frames that I missed and render them alone.

Curious, Did you directly Render Maya into a video format like Avi or Quicktime? Or did you Batch render into a bundle of image files like Jpeg or Bmp or Targa and put them into a video editing system to convert it into a video?

  11. Sylonien1314

Hi, no it was rendered on a Windows Vista Business x64 bit version.

Hey there :) just one question…Was this made using vista home premium?

  13. Sylonien1314

Well not much, just a few settings in Render and wait until 2030 until the video is rendered.

  17. Sylonien1314

It was all rendered using mental ray. Took forever! As much as 5 hours at times for a few seconds, the scenes with water.

I think it’s called ‘Requiem of a Tower’ or something like that, featured in ‘Requiem of a Dream’ or in Lord of The Rings as well, well many places used it. Like in Sunshine trailer or the Audi TT trailer as well.

    Thanks for watching.
