Question by Maru: What 3d glasses do i need if i want to watch a 3d movie on panasonic th 42pv80pa plasma tv?
So we got a new 42″ plasma tv and im thinking of getting some 3d movie to watch home since we now have the home theatre set, but i checked net and im so confused i cant understand what glasses do i need to watch the 3d movie, the red cyan or what, or some other colors? and what type, there r too many out the, anaglyph anachrome and oO *confused*

Best answer:

Answer by Steve S
its a tough question but an easy fix. Luckily there are 2 3d movies on comcast on demand and if you go to a payment center they have 3d glasses for free so you can watch My Bloody Valentine. If you need the clear 3d glasses you would need to go to the thaetre and keep a pair from any one of the new pixar movies.

When the evil wizard Gargamel chases the tiny blue Smurfs out of their village, they tumble from their magical world and into ours — in fact, smack dab in the middle of Central Park. Just three apples high and stuck in the Big Apple, the Smurfs must find a way to get back to their village before Gargamel tracks them down.Once in a blue moon, one gets a glimpse of what’s truly important in life–and it’s not always what one might expect. In the hidden land of the Smurfs, the perpetually happy blue creatures are preparing for the Blue Moon festival. They have no clue that the evil wizard Gargamel (Hank Azaria) is about to follow one of them into their secret world in an attempt to capture their happy essence–a substance guaranteed to render his magic all-powerful. In a striking parallel to Enchanted, a vortex suddenly opens up and sucks Papa, Grouchy, Smurfette, Brainy, Gutsy, and Clumsy Smurf into the middle of New York City, with Gargamel following close behind. Shocked expectant parents Patrick and Grace Winslow (Neil Patrick Harris and Jayma Mays) end up with an apartment full of the little blue beings. They eventually befriend the Smurfs and agree to help them outsmart Gargamel and find their way back home. What ensues is a danger-filled, comical adventure that takes the Smurfs from Central Park to Patrick’s place of employment and even FAO Schwarz. Just when it looks like their plan to return home will fail, and that they’ve destroyed Patrick’s career in the process, things really heat up and everyone learns a lesson about what’s really important in life and about believing in oneself. The film does a good job melding live action and animation, and there’s plenty of humor involved for both kids and adults. Most kids will laugh their way through the film, but there are some situations of peril that the very youngest or easily frightened might find rather intense. Harris and Mays do a good job interacting with their new blue friends, but it’s too bad these talented actors weren’t given a bit more depth of character to work with. Azaria is quite an effective villain and Frank Welker’s cat Azrael is hysterical. Other notable voice talent includes Jonathan Winters as Papa Smurf, Alan Cumming as Gutsy, Katy Perry as Smurfette, Fred Armisen as Brainy, George Lopez as Grouchy, and Anton Yelchin as Clumsy. The Smurfs is funny enough family entertainment, but given its star-studded cast, it had the potential to be even better. (Ages 7 and older) –Tami Horiuchi

I don’t need much excuse to go and experience the wonders of the fantastic new effects that 3D promises. Luckily for me I have four little girls who give me the perfect excuse to see all the latest kids animations with 3D effects.

3D movies work by making sure each eye sees a different image to the other, both taken from a slightly different perspective.

As our eyes are two inches apart they each each see the world differently. When we view a 3D movie this effect is being simulated which fools our brain into seeing a 3D image on a 2D screen. All 3D images are created this way but there are two or three different methods used to achieve the effect.

Anaglyph Stereo

Once a popular method anaglyph is now more of a novelty due to its poor picture quality. If you’ve never heard the term before I am referring to the red and blue glasses that are usually manufactured from cheap cardboard with low grade plastic lenses. Each separate image is made up of either a red or blue tint. The red or blue lenses filter out the corresponding image so each eye sees the different perspective. This technique suffers from muted colors and blurriness so has never really been used for feature length movies.

Active Shutter Glasses Stereoscopy

Active shutter glasses use a method that is technically known as alternate-frame sequencing. Each image is shown alternately on the screen. When an eye is not supposed to see the image it is blocked by the shutter over that eye going dark. When the technology was fairly new many people complained of a visible flickering in the image. It’s for this reason that a TV needs to be have a refresh frequency of 120Hz or higher to double the frame rate of the animation on screen. These higher frequencies are becoming the default standard of new model TVs and projectors.

Using active shutter glasses can have its downsides. The major disadvantage is that the glasses require power either through a cord or from batteries. When you have a large family that can add up to quite a mess of cables or quite a lot of batteries. As they have been around for a while now prices for active shutter glasses and the TVs that use them have greatly reduced in price. Great news if you have a small or no family and only need one or two pairs of glasses.

Polarized Light Stereoscopy

As technology is always evolving new techniques for displaying 3D imagery are coming onto the market. One such system uses polarized light for projecting images onto a screen and it is now possible to display both images on the screen simultaneously. Special polarized lenses in the glasses are polarized to only let in the correct image while blocking the other.

There are some major advantages to this method but the one limiting disadvantage is that it is prohibitively expensive to the average home user. Projectors are currently the best way to display the images so you will need to buy a silver projector screen to get the best effect. Silver screens make sure the light reaching your eyes remains polarized so the picture retains its quality.

I believe polarized light stereoscopy will become the dominant method of 3D in the home eventually as costs decrease over time. Glasses are easier to manufacture and are lots cheaper and lighter than shutter glasses. Your audience can be larger and more spread out due to the large viewing angles that polarized stereoscopy provides. If you use shutter glasses you can expect about a 20% reduction in brightness. You get a much brighter image with polarized lenses as they only block about 10% of the light.

I love going to the movies. I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of it. Now that we have 3D movies I’m like a little kid in a candy store. You don’t have to twist my arm to get me to experience the joys of a well made 3D experience. Fortunately I have four little girls who also like an outing to the movie theater and enjoy a good 3D film as much as the next person and not just movies made for girls either.

3D works by making sure each eye sees a slightly different picture than the other with each image representing the perspective of each eye.

Because our eyes are separated slightly they each see the world from a different perspective. 3D movies mimic this effect thus giving the illusion of depth on a 2D screen. Whatever method of seeing 3D you are using they all use this same principle but go about it in slightly different ways.

Alternate-frame sequencing is the technical term coined for active shutter glasses. The different images are shown alternately. To make sure each eye only sees the correct image the shutter over that eye is made to go dark via liquid crystals in the lens. When the technology was fairly new many people complained of a visible flickering in the image. It’s for this reason that a TV needs to be have a refresh frequency of 120Hz or higher to double the frame rate of the animation on screen. Modern TVs and projectors are more than capable of this however.

There are pros and cons to using active shutter glasses. The major disadvantage is that the glasses require power either through a cord or from batteries. This becomes very inconvenient when you have a large family. Active shutter glasses have been around for a while now so the technology that uses them has become quite affordable.

The major disadvantage of this method is the cost. It’s new technology so prices are still quite high. Another disadvantage is that you will need to buy a silver screen to get the best viewing experience. Silver screens make sure the light reaching your eyes remains polarized so the picture retains its quality.

I believe polarized light stereoscopy will become the dominant method of 3D in the home eventually as costs decrease over time.
3D glasses have taken various source of entertainment like watching 3D movies, 3D slide shows, fireworks, laser shows to an entirely different level. They are becoming more and more popular by the day with one 3D movie after another becoming a blockbuster in the recent years. Avatar, Kung Fu Panda 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Sanctum, Gulliver’s Travels, the Toy story series, and many more. In this article, we would offer you a glimpse of the most popular 3D movies.

Avatar- Released in December 18, 2009, this movie got rave reviews cutting across countries across the world. The story line, the star cast, everything was just perfect. It attracted the admiration of both adults and children alike, which would enjoy the movie in 3D glasses for an exhilarating 3D experience.

Kung Fu Panda 2- This is the most recent 3D movie that has American computer-animated action comedy film. It is a sequel to the 2008 film Kung Fu Panda. This movie too received positive reviews from film critics and audience alike for the fantastic animation, voice acting, and flawless character development. It was a box office hit and the 3 D effect was just marvelous.

Toy Story- It is an American computer-animated film released by Walt Disney Pictures. This 3 D movie first released in 1995 deals with the story of toys which pretend to be lifeless when human being. The popular characters include Woody, a pull string cowboy doll (Hanks), and Buzz Lightyear, an astronaut action figure (Allen). Two sequels namely Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 came thereafter in 1999 and 2010 respectively. The series were especially popular with children who thronged the movie theaters and enjoyed the movie wearing their 3D glasses.

Coming back to glasses that offer 3D effect, it is to be mentioned here that they have indeed changed the way we enjoy a movie with 3D effect. More movies are on the pipeline.Pitfalls of 3-Dimesional GlassesHowever, these glasses are not without their share of disadvantages. It has been found that people using the same glasses especially in movie theatres have suffered from various eye related problems like conjunctivitis etc. Hence, movie theatres should take care to sanitize the glasses and clean them at regular intervals before reuse. Apart from sterilizing the spectacles, another solution can also be to discard them after single use. In fact, all precautions should be taken to maintain hygiene. However, we have other solutions. Why not get a pair of 3D glasses on your own? You can get them from an online source who maintains high quality in their products for definitive viewing and a great 3D experience. Just make sure that your source is genuine and has sufficient years of experience.

San Luis Obispo, CA (PRWEB) December 21, 2011

On Wednesday December 14, Dimensional Optics’ 3Dazzle™ line of 3D glasses was featured on ABC’s The View. This holiday season The View did a segment titled “The Best Gifts for Under $ 50” where each of the Hostesses chose some of their favorite gift ideas for this holiday season. Dimensional Optics 3D glasses were featured as one of Whoopi Goldberg’s top gift picks.

Earlier in the season Whoopi had made it clear how much she hated the 3D glasses they give you at the movies saying “they’re so big, and you don’t know who had them on before”. Dimensional Optics’ 3D glasses have solved Whoopi’s (as well as many other’s) gripes with current 3D glasses, by giving 3D movie goers an option to “wear your own 3D glasses when you go to the movies…and their cute!”

The 3Dazzle™ line of 3D glasses come in four styles and four bright translucent colors: Blue Ice, Cherry, Grape, and Lemon Lime. The 3D lenses are made with the highest quality 3D optics available to give the viewer an optimum 3D viewing experience for only $ 19.95. With seven 3D movies currently in theaters and more coming out every month, now is the perfect time to give a personal pair of 3D glasses to someone on your list.

The segment of The View featuring Dimensional Optics’ products can be seen here at about 30 minute mark. For a list of the gifts that were featured on the show, click here. For more information on Dimensional Optics products visit the Dimensional Optics Website.
